Friendly Center Service Guild
The Friendly Center Service Guild has been the major contributor to the center for the past 80 years. The service guild is dedicated to helping the center raising money and helping with the volunteer work. This group has strong religious convictions and desire to give hope and help to the neighborhood. They do all sorts of projects. The current membership of 200, comes primarily of women from the United Methodist churches in the area, but is open to all.
The best annual fundraiser in recent years has been the “World’s Largest Garage Sale” held in early August at the Epworth UMC, In 2011 the Friendly Center Food Bank had no food for the holiday time and the Guild donated $3000 to buy food. The Service Guild meets the second Tuesday of the month in the Friendly Center Community Building gym at noon. Lunch costs $3.25 and a program follows.
